چکیده

The aim of the study was to estimate the effect of culture conditions and culture site on magnesium (Mg) and zinc (Zn) concentrations in freshwater fish. The study encompassed dorsal muscles in five fish species: common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.), rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum) and Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baeri Brandt), northern pike (Esox lucius L.) and grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella Valenciennes). A total of 125 fish comprised 25 individuals of each species, aged from 6, 9, and 12 months. The fish were cultured in privately owned fish breeding ponds (Western Pomerania, Poland). For chemical and biochemical assays, samples of dorsal muscles were taken from each fish. Tissue samples were wet mineralised in concentrated HNO3 in a CEM MDS 2000 microwave oven. Magnesium and zinc concentrations were determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-MS) in a Jobin Yvon type JY-24 apparatus. The pursuit of the research we had an approval of the Polish Local Ethics Committee nr 9/05. The magnesium concentration in the dorsal muscles ranged from 95.3÷347.6 mg kg–1 w.w. The highest Mg concentration was found in rainbow trout

Level of Magnesium in Tissues and Organs of Freshwater Fish*

The aim of the study has been to estimate the effect of culture conditions and a culture site on magnesium (Mg) concentrations in freshwater fish. The study encompassed tissues (blood) and organs (gills, liver, kidney, dorsal muscles) of five fish species: common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.), rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum), Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baeri Brandt), northern pike (Es...

Determination of some heavy metal levels in three freshwater fish in Keban Dam Lake (Turkey) for public consumption

The accumulation of iron, zinc, copper and cobalt in the muscles of three freshwater fish (Cyprinus carpio, Squalius cephalus and Capoeta umbla) from Keban Dam Lake (Turkey) were investigated between September 2009 and April 2010. The concentration of heavy metals were found as Zn>Fe>Cu>Cd respectively. A positive relationship was found between heavy metal levels and fish size. The levels of al...

Acute Toxicity of Mercuric Chloride (HgCl2), Lead Chloride (PbCl2) and Zinc Sulfate (ZnSO4) on Silver Dollar Fish (Metynnis fasciatus)

Background: Since heavy metals can accumulate in the tissues of aquatic organisms, they can cause a range of hazardous effects which can become harmful to humans. The aim of this study was to investigate the acute effects of some heavy metals as potential dangerous substances by assessing the mortality effects of Mercuric Chloride (HgCl2), Lead Chloride (PbCl2) and Zinc Sulfate (ZnSO4) pollutan...

Effects of zinc oxide nanoparticles and zinc ions on intestine histopathology of freshwater crayfish (Astacus leptodactylus)

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of zinc oxide nanoparticles and ions on intestinal tissue histopathology of freshwater crayfish (Astacus leptodactylus) under laboratory conditions. We evaluated two concentrations of zinc oxide nanoparticles and zinc ions (0.5 µm/l and 1.0 mg/l) with a control group. After 14 days of exposure to the nanoparticles of zinc oxide and zinc ions...

An investigation on the effects of juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) monoculture and duo-culture farming in freshwater and seawater on growth performance

The objective of this study was to compare growth performance and feed conversion ratios of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) juveniles in monoculture and duo-culture in freshwater and seawater under aquarium conditions. The fish were about 2-months old hatchery-reared brook and rainbow trout with initial weights of 0.934±0.033 (n=360) and 1.014±0.019 (...
